Tiger Barb
The Tiger Barb (Puntius Tetrazona) is a vibrant Asian river fish reaching 3 inches at maturity with a typical lifespan of 5 years. These active swimmers thrive in tanks of at least 20 gallons maintained between 68-80°F and pH 6.5-7.5. As omnivores, they readily consume quality flake food supplemented with live or frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms. Tiger Barbs are known fin-nippers, so they're best kept with robust, faster-moving tank mates. They breed readily under proper conditions, with fry becoming sexually mature around 6-7 weeks. Males display brighter coloration and develop distinctive red noses during spawning, while females appear heavier. Note: Individual coloration varies by age and sex; the pictured specimen represents a typical adult.
