Macana Zebra Knife Fish (Gymnotus Javari)

Macana Zebra Knife Fish (Gymnotus Javari)

$39.95

The Macana or zebra knifefish (Gymnotus javari) is a slender, nocturnal, South American freshwater fish with a body of reddish-brown to dark chocolate brown marked by off-white or cream-orange diagonal stripes, a long anal fin it uses for movement, and an electric organ for navigation and finding prey. It is a shy and predatory species that feeds on insects, worms, and small crustaceans, but it can become more active in the aquarium after it acclimates and is fed. The False Tiger Knifefish is a good candidate for experienced aquarists and requires a tank with plenty of hiding spots and a secure lid to prevent escapes, while tank mates should be non-aggressive and large enough not to be eaten.
